School Pets

The Nursery has a range of pets which include two fish named Gary and Graham, 2 guinea pigs named Tom and Jerry, some stick insects, two large African snails, two hens that have been hand reared by our children and a giant rescue rabbit called Ted.

We also incorporate animals into our curriculum and throughout the year have visits from Zoolab and their excotic animals as well as Living Eggs and their chicks. We are extremely lucky to also have caterpillars that grow into butterflies and tadpoles that grow into frogs in the summer.

We believe that pets help the children to learn about loving and caring for something, responsibilities, the life cycle and most of all a passion for the natural world.

The children are encouraged to look after the animals; collecting food for them, cleaning them out, checking that they are healthy and happy and petting them.
